For its Mission & Control Business Unit and Remote Sensing Data Management Business Unit located in Hoeilaart, SPACEBEL is looking for several Software Engineers.

Function

As a Software Engineer, you develop solutions related to ground control segment and ground mission segment (satellite control, monitoring, mission planning, payload data processing) and Web- and cloud-based discovery and distribution of satellite data.

As foretaste of the job content, here are some of the concrete tasks to be performed:

  • Definition and analysis of the customers’ needs and requirements to find the perfect solution(s) ;
  • Architecture building and detailed design ;
  • Development of the application components (front-end user interfaces & back-end services) using the most recent technologies (Java, Angular, React, Spring Boot, cloud, Docker, Kubernetes, …) ;
  • Integration and validation of the software components and acceptance with the client.

All this, following the Agile methodology that allows to work in sync with other team members, share knowledge and make suggestions. Throughout the project, you may interact with space agencies and other contractors in Europe.

Profile

  • Master degree in computer engineering or equivalent.
  • A first experience as software engineer.
  • You are familiar with Java and Web development frameworks (at least one of the following: Spring, Play, Java EJB, JAX-WS, JAX-RS).
  • You have experience with :
    • designing and implementing REST web services (e.g. OpenAPI, JSON Schema, XML Schema) including security aspects (OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0,, ...) ;
    • designing Web and cloud applications.
  • An experience or a knowledge of the following aspects is an asset :
    • cloud-related technology (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, S3 object storage. COG, zarr) ;
    • agile software development methodologies ;
    • configuration management and version control incl. CI/CD pipelines, Git, GitLab ;
    • RDBMS, NoSQL databases and Big Data frameworks ;
    • user interface frameworks (AngularJS, React, View.js, Java ServerFaces) ;
    • standards : OGC API, STAC API ;
    • Jupyter Notebooks, Python.
  • A solid knowledge of technical English is essential, both for the reading of specifications as for documentation and proposal preparation.
  • Team player and communicative.
  • Independent analyst/software architect capable of development tasks as well.
  • Eager to learn to grow his/her software engineering skill levels and work with a small team.
  • Rigorous and concerned by the quality of the output delivered.
